Trend Micro Incorporated is a global leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services. Founded in 1988 the company led the migration of virus protection from the desktop to the network server and the Internet gateway, gaining a reputation for vision and technological innovation along the way. Trend Micro focuses on outbreak prevention and on providing customers with a comprehensive approach to managing the outbreak lifecycle and the impact of network worms and virus threats to productivity and information, through such initiatives as Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy.

Trend Micro is known for producing the PC-cillin range of anti-virus products. They also are the creator of the free, online, browser-based virus scanner, HouseCall. In order to research and inform about worldwide security threats, they have a global virus/worm response center, called TrendLabs.

Since 2004, MSN Hotmail has been using Trend Micro to scan messages and attachments in free and Hotmail Plus accounts instead of McAfee, which has made the company more public.

In May 2005 Trend Micro acquired InterMute Inc., a leading developer of anti-spyware products, followed in June by Kelkea Inc., a leading authority on IP filtering and reputation services.

In February 2006 Trend Micro released Interscan Web Security Appliance (IWSA) which is their latest addition to the company's multi-layered approach to protecting enterprise organisations against spyware and other threats. The appliance acts as the first line of defense against threats like spyware, grayware, viruses, and phishing
