Authentication
Metadigm provides a range of authentication and identity management solutions to ensure that only trusted and authorised network users can log on to your network and to block access from criminal hackers. We also supply systems for the control and logging of users' activity for compliance purposes.
If you provide remote access for your network users travelling or working away from the office, you need to be sure that your network security cannot be compromised. 'Strong' or 'two-factor' authentication ensures only authorised individuals are able to gain access to network resources. Two-factor authentication requires two distinct forms of identification:
- Something you know - a secret PIN, plus
- Something you have - a unique physical device such as a token or smartcard providing a one-time password
On their own, both 'factors' are useless as both are needed to gain access. Metadigm provides authentication solutions for remote access and token-based solutions which control building access, lock PC screens when removed and manage password log-on.
Metadigm can also provide authentication through network based appliances that inspect mobile clients prior to allowing them onto the network to ensure that client latest system patches and updates are installed and that Anti Virus and intrusion prevention profiles are updated.
The problem with passwords
According to an Infosecurity survey, 90% of office workers outside
their building gave away their password in exchange for a cheap pen.
One interviewee said, "I am the CEO, I will not give you my password.
It could compromise my company''s information". But later
in the same interview he blew it by saying that his password was his
daughter's name. "What is your daughter's name?" the
interviewer asked. He replied without thinking: "Olivia".
We all have passwords to access sensitive information. The classic username
and password combination can only deliver weak authentication. And yet
it is all that stands between your sensitive information and prying eyes.
Passwords are:
- A nightmare for IT Managers: you can never know if passwords have been compromised until it's too late.
- A dream for hackers: they are easy to steal or uncover via snooping, sniffing or simple guesswork. Once a password is compromised, your entire on-line identity is at risk.
- A hassle for users: because we need so many passwords, they are difficult to remember so inevitably we write them down.
- A drain on your helpdesk: an estimated 50% of end user support calls relate to password problems
